Over the last few years the UK Government has introduced a number of changes to the welfare and benefits system under their Welfare Reform agenda. These changes represent the biggest shake up in the UK benefits system since its inception and will impact on people on low income and those who are in receipt of welfare benefits and aged 16 to 64, including anyone claiming Housing Benefit.
The Northern Ireland Executive have committed £500 million until March 2020 to help mitigate the adverse financial impact on claimants in the province.
Connswater Homes has an appointed Welfare Advice Officer, Max Petrushkin, who may assist you in navigating these changes.
A summary of the biggest changes are listed below:
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Benefit Cap
- Social Sector Size Criteria (‘Bedroom Tax’)
- Universal Credit (UC)
